16 Nov National Caregiver Appreciation Month 2023
Celebrating Caregivers
Every November, we celebrate National Caregiver Appreciation Month to recognize the important role caregivers play in caring for our loved ones. From assistance with activities of daily living to providing companionship, caregivers perform a wide range of tasks to ensure our clients can live every day to the fullest. Their hard work and dedication allows individuals who are aging, ill, disabled, or recovering to remain safely in the comfort of their own homes.
A quick look at statistics shows that caregivers have a big impact in our communities:
- 90% of Americans want to age in place, and home care is the preferred method of health care delivery among the disabled, elderly, and chronically ill.
- Approximately 39.8 million caregivers provide care to adults (aged 18+) with a disability or illness or 16.6% of Americans.
- About 15.7 million adult family caregivers care for someone who has Alzheimer’s disease or other dementia.
- On average, caregivers spend:
- 13 days each month on tasks such as shopping, food preparation, housekeeping, laundry, transportation, and giving medication;
- 6 days per month on feeding, dressing, grooming, walking, bathing, and assistance toileting;
- 13 hours per month researching care services or information on disease, coordinating physician visits or managing financial matters.
